Föreställningen handlar om Gloria Estefan och hennes resa från att vara en blyg psykologistudent som övertalas att sjunga i gruppen Miami Latin Boys till att bli frontfigur för Miami Sound Machine och världsartist. Den tar också upp hennes kärlekshistoria med Emilio Estefan, hennes bråk med sin mor samt bussolyckan som höll på att göra henne förlamad. Föreställningen avslutas med hennes triumfartade comeback på American Music Awards 1991.
Om man gillar den här plattan och musikalen beror nog på hur mycket man gillar Gloria Estefan och Miami Sound Machine. Själv gillar jag många av deras sånger och de är en del av min ungdom, så jag blir både glad och lite sentimental när jag hör dem. Det låter bra om alla som sjunger och lirar på inspelningen men det går inte att komma ifrån att det trots svänget bara är en slags coverplatta, på gott och ont. Sätter nog hellre på en ”Greatest Hits” platta med originalen.
Det här är en live-inspelning och publiken är minst sagt enormt entusiastiska och jag kan tänka mig att det här är en medryckande föreställning som vinner på att ses live.

Alexander Dinelaris Jr. som skrev manuset till musikalen var en av fyra Oscarvinnande mansuförfattarna till filmen Birdman.
När föreställningen spelats färdigt på Broadway så skeppade man över all scenografi och alla kostymer till Utrecht i Nederländerna, där musikalen fick sin premiär 17 oktober 2017.
Rollsättningen i den nederländska uppsättningen var kontroversiell då samtliga huvudroller spelades av vita personer istället för latinos. När folk kritiserade producenterna för beslutet så svarade de med att de hade castat ”färgblint” och att det var en slump att det blev den rollsättningen det blev för de hade enbart gått efter vilka som varit bäst på audition. Gloria och Emilio Estefan godkände rollsättningen.
